Statement
My work investigates how something fun and frivolous becomes sinister and mysterious. I intend to stir the viewer into considering the familiar in an unfamiliar way by utilizing the juxtaposition of darkness and whimsy. I return over and over again to the same subjects and even if I move on for a year or six months, I can still feel my favorite subjects waiting in my subconscious for their turn to tumble back out. These are standard poodles, carousels and their animal inhabitants, candy, clowns, circuses, and myself as an avatar for different moods. No matter what the subject matter, the real motivation is the exploration of seemingly conflicting moods.
